Worst Time to Visit Dubai (And When to Go Instead)

If you’re planning a trip to Dubai, one of the first questions that comes up is timing. People usually want to know when the weather is bearable, when prices make sense, and when the city isn’t packed.

The problem is that Dubai can feel very different depending on the month. Extreme heat, high prices, and big crowds can easily affect your experience if you choose the wrong time.

I’ve visited Dubai many times over the years, in different seasons, with and without family. Based on that experience, this guide breaks down when Dubai is hardest to enjoy, and when it actually makes more sense to go.

To make planning easier, here are a few hotels and activities to consider:

What Makes a “Bad” Time to Visit Dubai?

The worst time to visit Dubai depends on a few things:

  • Weather (heat, humidity, rain, sandstorms)
  • Prices for hotels and flights
  • Crowds and public holidays
  • Attraction opening hours

Let’s go through each one so you can decide what matters most for your trip.

What Weather Makes Dubai Hard to Visit?

Dubai is a desert city, so heat plays a big role. Based on visiting Dubai in both summer and winter over several years, I’ve found that the heat and humidity in July and August are unlike most other destinations.

There isn’t really a cold season, just very hot and slightly less hot.

July and August: The toughest months

July and August are the hardest months to visit Dubai. Daytime temperatures can reach up to 50°C (122°F), and humidity is very high, especially in August. Even the sea feels warm, more like bath water.

If your plan includes beach time, walking around the city, or outdoor sightseeing, these months are not ideal. Being outside for long can feel exhausting.

That said, if your trip focuses on malls, indoor attractions, and dining, the heat may not bother you as much. Dubai is fully air-conditioned, with taxis, metro stations, malls, and even many bus stops.

Tip: Bring a light sweater. Indoor air-conditioning can feel surprisingly cold.

January and February: Not always perfect

Many people assume winter is the safest option, but January and February can be unpredictable. In recent years, heavier rain has become more common, partly due to cloud seeding.

This can sometimes lead to flooding in certain areas. It usually lasts a short time, and after a day or two, life in Dubai goes back to normal, but it can affect outdoor plans if it happens during your stay.

When Are Dubai Prices Highest and Hardest on Your Budget?

If budget matters, winter is not your friend.

From November to March, hotel prices and flight costs are at their highest. December is especially expensive due to Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and school holidays.

Inside Mall of the Emirates in Dubai during December, large Christmas trees decorated with lights and ornaments fill the space. Shoppers walk around stores like Prada and Burberry while festive lights hang from the ceiling.

Cheapest months

June, July, and August are the cheapest months to visit Dubai. Hotels offer big discounts, and malls run major sales.

Just keep in mind:

You save money, but you trade comfort.

Worst Time to Visit Dubai for Crowds and Holidays

December: Busy and overwhelming

If you don’t enjoy crowds, December can be frustrating. The weather is great, but the city is packed. Beaches, malls, public transport, and popular attractions are all busy.

Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai decorated for Christmas with a large lit tree beside the water. People walk along the waterfront while lights reflect on the canal and traditional buildings stand in the background.

During my last visit around Christmas, everything felt much more crowded than usual, especially malls, transport, and popular spots.

Ramadan

Ramadan is another time that may not suit everyone. During this month, Muslims fast during the day, and daily routines change.

What to expect:

  • Shorter opening hours for some attractions
  • Smaller shops opening later in the evening
  • Nightclubs closed for the month

Dubai is much more relaxed about Ramadan than it used to be, but you should still be respectful. Eating and drinking should be done in designated areas, and dressing more modestly is expected.

Since Ramadan moves every year, it’s important to check the dates before booking.

So, When Is the Best Time to Visit Dubai?

The easiest and most balanced time to visit Dubai is during the shoulder seasons:

  • April and May
  • Late September and October

During these months:

  • The weather is warm but manageable
  • The sea temperature is great
  • Prices are lower than in winter
  • Crowds are lighter

It’s a good mix of comfort and value.

Visiting Dubai for Events and Festivals

Dubai hosts events all year, but some happen around the same time annually:

  • Dubai Shopping Festival (December–January): Big sales, raffles, shows, and family events
  • Dubai Desert Classic (January): Major golf tournament
  • Dubai Tennis Championships (February)
  • Dubai Jazz Festival (February)
  • Dubai World Cup (March): Famous horse racing event
  • Art Dubai (March)
  • Dubai Food Festival (April–May)
  • UAE National Day (December 2)
  • New Year’s Eve (December 31): Fireworks and light shows across the city

If attending events is important to you, it’s worth planning your trip around them. Just expect higher prices and more people.
